Create Usb Bootable El Capitan

Create a bootable OS X El Capitan USB Drive: Making a bootable OS X El Capitan USB Drive is easy and doesn’t take very long at all. There are a number of benefits to creating this type of boot drive, including the fact that it makes it very easy to install a fresh copy of the operating system you have configured on it.

Another benefit is that you will have a very easy time installing an operating system on a completely separate partition or on a virtual machine. By creating a boot disk you will have fast access to a portable installation whenever you need it.

  1. You will want to start off by connecting your flash drive to your Mac
  2. Download and Install the latest version of DiskMakerX (or check here how to download and use DiskMaker X step by step)
  3. Run DiskMakerX and click “Yosemite (10.10)“, as there is currently no other version available for El Capitan.
  4. Next you will want to select the install file and in the Applications folder select “Install OS X 10.11” and click “Choose”.
  5. Click “An 8 GB USB thumb drive” and select the flash drive you plugged into your Mac.
  6. Click “Erase” then create the disk.
  7. You will then need to click “Continue” and enter your administrator password when prompted.
  8. Once the process has finished, simply click “Quit”.

Create A Bootable El Capitan Usb

Oct 01, 2015 The El Capitan installer file came down to my Applications folder without problem, but multiple repeat attempts to create a bootable USB (16gb) drive using Diskmaker X 5 has failed. The program appears to go through all the steps, but finally the USB drive is never findable as a bootable drive. It installs an app named Install OS X El Capitan into your Applications folder. Use the 'createinstallmedia' command in Terminal. Connect the USB flash drive or other volume that you're using for the bootable installer. Make sure that it has at least 12GB of available storage and is formatted as Mac OS Extended.

You will now have a working bootable OS X El Capitan USB drive to use whenever you want. You can choose to rename the drive to “El Capitan” as opposed to “Yosemite”. Because DiskMakerX does not yet have an option for El Capitan, it will automatically name is Yosemite.
